Open Burning Information
Open burning season runs from
January 15 to May 1 of each year. To obtain a burning permit you must be
issued a permit in person at the Swansea Fire Department's
Administrative Office at Station 2 on New Gardner Neck Road. You may
download a copy of the regulations and application for permit below,
print and fill it out, and submit it to the dispatcher on duty any time
between the previously stated dates. After being issued a permit you
must call the Swansea Fire Department business line each day you plan to
burn and request your permit be authorized for that day.

Application for Membership
Any town resident can apply to be a member of the
department. Just pick up and submit an application at the
administration office or a copy of the application can be downloaded
below, and
returned to the administration office .
All members are required to attend the Massachusetts Fire Academy
Recruit School and become Firefighter I/II certified, and attend monthly
meetings. Swansea Firefighters are also required to meet a percentage of
monthly drills and fire calls to remain in good standing and active.

Mission
Statement of the Swansea Fire Department
The mission of the
Swansea Fire Department is to serve and protect the public from the loss
of life and property as efficiently and effectively as possible through
fire prevention, public education, and fire suppression.
Our mission can be accomplished through having a well trained, well
equipped, and up to date firefighting force that will provide the Town
with the best emergency services possible.
The Swansea Fire Department will continue to provide for the fire
protection and public safety needs of our diversified and growing
community by maintaining high levels of performance and standards of
